VietNamNet Bridge – Along National Highway 51 on the way to the coastal city of Vung Tau, Dai Tong Lam Pagoda is located in Tan Thanh District in the coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 70km east of HCM City. The nine grades of the mandarin system of bliss area displays 48 statues of Buddha Amitabha made of granite standing under the open sky. Dai Tong Lam Pagoda, which was built by superior Buddhist monk Thich Thien Hoa in 1964, is located on a quiet 54-hectare plot consisting of many pagodas, Zen monasteries, Buddhist temples, and a junior Buddhism college, and is considered the Buddhist center of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. The pagoda has been recognized by the Vietnam Record Book for its four exceptional records, namely the biggest sanctum covering over 3,000 square meters, the biggest granite statue of Bodhisattva Metteyya weighing over 40 tons, the biggest number of statues of Buddha in a pagoda - with over 10,000 - and the Buddhism training center with most learners -1,250 monks and nuns. The splendor of the current architecture model of Buddhism bearing the hallmark of the national culture is seen via the complex of Dai Tong Lam Pagoda. The new main temple, or sanctum, overlooking four directions shows a splendid place like the elysium. Above the curved tiles are dragons cleverly carved that make them look like hovering over nine layers of cloud. Attractions for tourists also include the charming landscape along with a lotus pond and fresh air. The entrance leading to the main temple is shaded with two lines of big trees, while under the old fig tree lays a huge statue of Buddha Sakya Muni being deep in religious contemplation. Overlooking in the distance behind the trees sits the Metteyya temple. On the left side of the pagoda is a place where 48 statues of Buddha Amitabha made of granite 3.3 meters in height, 3.5 tons in weight standing under the open sky. A concrete 14.5-meter-high statue is arranged in the middle. The entrance is paved with red tiles to reduce the heat of summer days. Especially, in the complex of Dai Tong Lam Pagoda, Thien Hoa nun monastery has been known as a "rice pancake pagoda" for many years. The pagoda serves vegetarian food such as rice pancake or bank xeo, vermicelli and sour imitated- crab soup or bun rieu, vermicelli made of cassava, and noodles soup or pho from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. everyday. Last but not least, pilgrims can cast off their affliction and tiredness to mingle themselves with nature in a tranquilizing space if they have a chance to visit Dai Tong Lam Pagoda. (Source: SGT) |

Halong Bay stretches over an area of 1,500sqm, dotted with islands of every shape and size. This afternoon we cruise this beautiful bay and visit one of the fascinating grottos on our traditionally styled but well appointed, modern sailing junk. Halong Bay is a photographer’s paradise. UNESCO has named Hue ‘an adorable architectural poem’. This morning we visit some of the remarkable tombs of the Nguyen Dynasty. After lunch we take a boat trip on the Perfume River to visit Thien Mu Pagoda and Ming Mang Tomb. A special dinner at a local restaurant is planned this evening.
- Day 8Hue - Da Nang - Hoi An

We then take the scenic trip over the Hai Van Pass (Pass of Clouds) to Da Nang, where we stop for lunch. Continue past the breathtaking Marble Mountains beside China Beach before driving 30 kilometres to the ancient town of Hoi An, on the banks of the Thu Bon River. Originally a Cham port, the township of Hoi An has a distinct Chinese atmosphere with low tiled roof houses and narrow streets. The large community of foreign merchants living in Hoi An between the 16th and 18th centuries resulted in unique architecture, combining Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese cultures. We have three nights at the Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort & Spa.

Saigon is a much livelier city than Hanoi, its streets are packed with motorbikes and increasingly with cars, the buildings reflect a mixture of architectural styles and the people are devoutly capitalist despite the country’s socialist government. Saigon is a city of amazing contrasts.
- Day 14Saigon
Friday 9 January
This morning we will tour Saigon. Drive past the lavish colonial City Hall and the French style cathedral, located in the middle of a busy street. We also see the site of the former US Embassy and remember the dramatic helicopter evacuation that took place in 1975. We descend underground to visit a hospital, barracks, command post, galley and mess room. We return to our hotel to freshen up before travelling overland to the university town of Can Tho. Can Tho is on the confluence of three rivers in the heart of the Mekong Delta. The Mekong Delta was once part of the Khmer Kingdom and there are many ethnic Khmers still living here. The Munirangsyaram pagoda is a typical Khmer Buddhist pagoda, where the friendly monks are likely to offer you tea while practicing their English. We visit the museum and local market prior to arrival at the Victoria Can Tho Hotel.
- Day 16Can Tho - Chau Doc
Sunday 11 January
This morning we board a boat on the Mekong River to visit the bustling floating market. Our boat will navigate through the colourful congestion of women and children jostling for space and vying to sell their wares. Return to the hotel for a late breakfast and some free time. After lunch we travel by boat along the Mekong River to Chau Doc. We stay beside the river at the Victoria Chau Doc Hotel.
- Day 17Chau Doc - Phnom Penh (Cambodia)
Monday 12 January
This morning we will visit a nearby isolated Cham village and journey by boat to see the floating homes. This afternoon we arrive in Phnom Penh for two nights at the charming old world, Raffles Hotel Le Royal.
- Day 18Phnom Penh

It is the largest religious building in existence and a true wonder of the world. We enter the temple by crossing the moat and passing through two huge outside walls, pausing to marvel at the towers that lie ahead. We will explore the three levels of the temple, which has only recently reopened to tourists.
Another dine-around dinner this evening.
- Day 20Angkor Wat
Thursday 15 January
This morning you may like to rise early and view the spectacular sunrise over Angkor Wat, returning to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast we explore some other outstanding temples in the complex. Wonderful Ta Prohm, still embraced by the roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers, is a truly amazing sight. We continue to mystical Angkor Thom and the Bayon, pausing to see the Elephant Terrace and the ornately carved gates. This afternoon is free for relaxation at our wonderful hotel.

Nature’s gift
| |||||||
The summer season in Cua Lo in Nghe An Province, half way between Hue and Hanoi, has just begun with a warm welcome for beach lovers. Only 18 km from the provincial capital Vinh, Cua Lo Beach is well known for its smooth sand and sparkling sea. Cua Lo town’s main drag is Binh Minh Street. With hotels on one side and a natural casuarina forest on the other, the road is shaded all day. In an effort to preserve the town’s natural beauty, hotels must be low and stilt houses peak out from behind the trees. Just a short boat ride from the beach are two islands – Lan Chau which is 1 km to the north-east and Ngu (Fish) Island 4 km offshore. These two islands protect Cua Lo beach from heavy storms and strong winds coming in from the East Sea. Ngu Island is riddled with trails inviting visitors to wander for hours. The captain summons passengers back with a bell and ferries them to a floating village specializing in ca gio, a fish weighing up to 5 kg whose meat is as white and tender as lean pork. The fishermen, who raise ca gio in submerged cages, hope to relocate further out to a 300 hectare area west of Mat (Eye) Island, a move they expect will lure more tourists. The nearby Quynh Nhai Island group, 20 km from the beach, has many small, picturesque islands. Once in Cua Lo, besides swimming and sun-bathing, tourists can visit islands by boat, climb the mountains, dive, and visit historic and literary sites such as Nguyen Xi Temple in Nghi Hop Commune and Trung Kien Pagoda in Nghi Thiet Commune. Founded in 1994 with only eight hotels and limited services, the Cua Lo Beach town has developed rapidly. The town now has modern infrastructure, transport, and entertainment venues. Over 200 hotels and guest houses can serve some 13,000 visitors per day. Tourists can travel to Cua Lo by air, train, sea, or car. Reported by Thu Hien |

Unforgettable Cruise in Halong Bay 135$
Old world charm resurfaced on the calm water of Halong Bay, Vietnam with the launch of a magnificent five star vessel Emeraude modeled in the tradition of the grand old single wheeled paddle steamer of the colonial era. One of the great natural wonders of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Halong Bay covers an area of 1,500 km² over which are scattered thousands of limestone islands and grottoes rising from the clear, emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin.
The majestic beauty of the bay and its islands is only fully appreciated while meandering among the islands, fjords and islets. The original Emeraude was one of the flotillas owned by the Roque family who left Bordeaux in 1858 in search of fame and fortune. The fleet cruised along Indochina waterways and Halong Bay in the olden days. The original Emeraude sank in the Bay in 1937. Using advanced techniques, French architects painstakingly modeled the new vessel from old photos and drawings found at the Paris' Maritime Museum. Passengers can now relax, seek total comfort in the luxurious cabins or enjoy the beautiful sea breeze on the sun deck and enjoy the splendor and serenity of nature.
The Emeraude operates daily a two day, one night cruise. For lunch and dinner, passengers get to enjoy delicious freshly caught seafood and Vietnamese specialties. In the morning, an American style breakfast is served onboard the colonial vessel. For passengers who want more than just cruising around, the Emeraude also offer afternoon tea, traditional body massages and sunrise Tai Chi classes.
